Allergy in Asthma Patients Triggered during Winter Season

During winter season in Australia, it brings a self allergies and problem for those who suffer asthma. It has come to show that one in ten Australians have seasonal colds and sniffs that add to the despair of the patient with asthma as they are triggered with viral infections.

“A study conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School has found that the flu virus can trigger a different type of immune response in asthma patients. Umetsu, author of the study said that the new study identifies a new type of immune cell called natural helper cells that are found in the gut and have a role in fighting gut parasites. These cells create interleukin 13 (IL-13) which is responsible for allergic asthma.” http://newstonight.net/content/winter-season-can-cause-allergy-asthma-patients

Umetsu further said that the TH2 cells, mast cells and eosinophils are immune cells that are connected to allergy and are implicated in the adaptive immunity where there is memory of allergy. The said cells are found in the lungs of most people who have asthma. They act in response to corticosteroids that helps limit the inflammation in the airway and constriction as well as mucus secretion.

Researchers are of the outlook that if these cells are reactivated asthmatic patients could be more successfully secluded when they get the flu and probably other viral infections. It is also alleged that the verdict of the study will assist the scientists in accepting the mysterious cause behind patients who are hospitalized with severe asthma don’t act in response to their medication.
