Flu Warning Issued Globally after UK Reports 27 Flu Deaths

Health professionals are urging people to be on the alert during this year’s flu season. Already there have been headlines circulating about the spike in flu cases now being reported in the UK, and other countries will soon be going through the same scenario.

At the present time it is the swine flu that seems to be dominating the health care scene, but there are two other potent strains of flu that are also present in the population. The Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Europe is sending out warnings that other European countries can expect to see an increase in the number of flu victims over the coming weeks.

This strain of swine flu is more virulent in the younger patient population and although it is yet early in the 2010 flu season there are reports of 27 deaths in the UK that have resulted from this virus. It appears that most people middle aged and older may have already acquired additional immunity to this flu strain since they were exposed to a similar flu virus in the past.

Those listed at the highest risk for contracting the swine flue are children up to the age of 14. The next highest risk group are those whose ages are 15-45.

There is still time to get flu immunizations and health care organizations are strongly promoting this option to the population at large. Although a pandemic of the flu is not being predicted there is every reason for people to be proactive and take the necessary steps to safeguard their health.
