While rumors have been going around that OS X “Lion” would be coming out soon, those rumors were put to rest when the CFO of Apple made the announcement that the Mac OS X Lion would be launched on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Although a time of day was not given for the release, it will be shipped at some point on Wednesday.
Apple had only given information saying they would be shipping out this OS X “Lion” at some point during the month of July, but until today, no specific date had been given for the release.
The price for the new OS X “Lion is $29.99. The requirements for running this operating system include having a Mac that has an Intel Core 2 Duo, a Xeon processor, Core i7, Core i5, or Core i3. It also requires having Snow Leopard already installed and the computer must have at least 2GB of memory.
For consumers to get this new OS release from Apple, they must visit the Mac App Store online and download it from there. This upgrade is only available online in this way, unlike many of the other OS upgrades that Apple has put out in the past.
