Wednesday is the Day for the Launch of Apple’s OS X “Lion”

Wednesday is the Day for the Launch of Apple’s OS X “Lion”

While rumors have been going around that OS X “Lion” would be coming out soon, those rumors were put to rest when the CFO of Apple made the announcement that the Mac OS X Lion would be launched on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Although a time of day was not given for the release, it will be shipped at some point on Wednesday.

Apple had only given information saying they would be shipping out this OS X “Lion” at some point during the month of July, but until today, no specific date had been given for the release.

The price for the new OS X “Lion is $29.99. The requirements for running this operating system include having a Mac that has an Intel Core 2 Duo, a Xeon processor, Core i7, Core i5, or Core i3. It also requires having Snow Leopard already installed and the computer must have at least 2GB of memory.

For consumers to get this new OS release from Apple, they must visit the Mac App Store online and download it from there. This upgrade is only available online in this way, unlike many of the other OS upgrades that Apple has put out in the past.

Apple’s Mac App Store Hits One Million Downloads in First Day

Apple’s Mac App Store Hits One Million Downloads in First Day

Apple’s Mac App store has experienced a phenomenal amount of popularity in the very first few days of its launch. The store debuted on January 6, 2011 and within 24 hours, well over one million downloads occurred. That would have to be a new record and a shining example of the stunning success Apple has achieved with this new store.

There is another facet to the success of Apple’s Mac Store. The inventory of the store is hardly expansive. There are currently only 1,000 items available for download. This makes the one million downloads even more impressive. Generally, one would expect the launch of such a store to include 50,000 or so applications. Even with 1/50th of that amount, the downloads were able to far, far exceed the expectations of even the most optimistic analysts. Apple truly has a major success on its hands.

Reportedly, twice as many people have downloaded Apple Mac Apps than those that have downloaded the previous success story of mobile apps.

Microsoft Tablet Faces a Good Fight Against Apple iPad in Las Vegas

Microsoft Tablet Faces a Good Fight Against Apple iPad in Las Vegas

New software for Microsoft tablets will be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show, but skeptics said that it will not trump the stable sales of Apple iPad too soon. The Consumer Electronics Show will be held in Las Vegas, starting 6 January 2011.

Skeptics reckon that by the time Microsoft comes out with a new algorithm for its tablet, it might be too late as everyone might have already owned an iPad. Microsoft will need to come up with a device that is better than the multifunctional iPad, which has music, video and computing features.

A new Windows operating system will be introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show, and the version will be used on battery-powered devices, like wireless cellphones and tablets. The operating system will run on ARM Holdings Plc technology, and the ARM technology-based chips are made by Samsung Electronics Co., Qualcomm Inc., and Texas Instruments Inc.

iPhone User Sued Apple Over Privacy Rights

iPhone User Sued Apple Over Privacy Rights

An iPhone user has recently sued Apple regarding advertisements that appear in mobile applications. The lawsuit was filed on 23 December, looking to establish a class action status that covers all iPhone users who have downloaded mobile apps since December 2008.

The lawsuit also included a report on how mobile advertisements work, with apps like Pandora and Paper Toss game claimed to be sending sensitive information such as gender, age, phone ID numbers and location to more than three ad companies.

Apple is alleged of transmitting personal information, which is a violation of privacy laws and federal computer fraud. However, Apple claimed that all apps on its App Store have been reviewed, and Apple also claimed that it does not allow the mobile appls to send user data without the user’s permission.

It is said that although Apple allows users to opt out of sharing their data with advertisers, it apparently allows advertisers to act beyond its policy rules.

Apple Going Intel In Future MacBooks

Apple Going Intel In Future MacBooks

Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors are expected to come out on January 5, 2011 and Apple is already looking into integrating them within their future MacBooks. To an extent, the MacBooks now already uses Intel cards, but you can also switch to the Nvidia processor. Back in the past, Apple did use Intel exclusively but Apple looked at it as lacking behind graphics when it was Intel vs. AMD. If Apple does go with the Intel processors, then it’ll only be made available to the lower end 13 inch models and perhaps maybe the Mac Mini.

MacBook in the past have complained about how lacking their graphics were because how Apple was using outdated graphic cards within their models. This decision is a prime factor within Apple’s concern of whether they should drop Nvidia altogether or not. When it comes down to it, it all comes down to how much power Apple is looking in giving the MacBooks and the Intel choice could be a bad move.
