New Season for Weight Loss Program- ProHealth Fitness Center

New Season for Weight Loss Program- ProHealth Fitness Center

The organizers believed that the newest weight loss program ProHealth Fitness Center will be a success and will be starting up a new season. Linda Crawford said that in just a span of 11 weeks, this session participants, fewer than 50, have been able to lose 500 pounds and more with diet and exercise.

“Mission Competition divides participants into teams and assigns each team a personal trainer. Participants meet with their trainer as a group each week to exercise. The trainers also give them help with creating a diet plan and an exercise plan for the rest of the week. Each participant also has to complete homework between sessions such as walking 10 miles before the next meeting, burning a certain number of calories or doing 50 crunches every day. The competition lasts for 12 weeks.” http://www.mtairynews.com/view/full_story/12616154/article-Mission-Competition–Weight-loss-Edition?instance=secondary_news_left_column

All the participants will weigh in every week and their total weight loss will be posted under their trainer’s name. Crawford added that the program is fun and they have success on it more than they have ever had on the fitness side. And she considers the program as the best weight loss program that she had ever done.

The wining team will receive a price as well as its trainer hence they got to work as a group in a common goal and to have fun on the program.

For Ginny Collins, the competition has been great, back then, she lack self-discipline but when she is on the team she is more motivated to stick to the diet and to his daily exercise.

Many are reluctant to take their part in the fitness program but as they have seen the result, they are now happy on what they did. Many have reported to have good result in the program.

The 12-week program requires a 1 hour commitment to the trainer and also a time to complete the homework assignments for the week. The homework assignments will usually span for at least five days during the week and includes exercise and nutrition goals.

Next season will begin on April 14 and staff members are ready for signing people up, including those who have just completed the program.

Research Reveals: Walnuts Plays a Great Part in Healthy Eating Plan

Research Reveals: Walnuts Plays a Great Part in Healthy Eating Plan

Isabel De Los Rios, certified Nutritionist and the creator of the scientifically based Diet Solution Program, persuades the dieters to comprise walnuts in their healthy eating plan. The recent research shows that nut is an antioxidant powerhouse. Diet Solution Program helped dieters to lose weight permanently and is a natural approach to weight loss.

“Joe Vinson, PhD, presented preliminary findings of research conducted at the University of Scranton on the antioxidant value of various nuts. A variety of nuts were studied including almonds, pistachios, almonds and others. All fell short of the walnut which appears to be brimming with useful antioxidants. According to Vinson, “Walnuts rank above peanuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios and other nuts. A handful of walnuts contain almost twice as many antioxidants as an equivalent amount of other commonly consumed nut.” http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/04/prweb5217534.htm

The findings of the study did not surprise De Los Rios, who is a certified nutritionist and spent ten years in encouraging people to include walnuts in their diet. She said that it is also good to include food that can boost metabolism naturally so that people can have the control for their health and as well as control in their weight for good.

De Los Rios understands what the dieters are up to because she was once thirty pounds overweight. She did everything in order to lose weight but nothing seems to work for her, but not for very long. When she found out the facts about food and its work on the body, she was able to lose the weight that she always wanted. The, she developed the Diet Solution Program in order for others to influence this natural, and scientific approach in the battle for control over the health and the weight.

High Protein Diet Recommended for Weight Loss

High Protein Diet Recommended for Weight Loss

According to the new research in United States that was published in the journal Obesity, weight loss can be achieved by filling up in protein that makes you feel fuller. The Purdue-based study was conducted among 27 overweight and obese men who were divided into a consuming group of high-protein and group of normal protein.

Each men consume a restricted-calorie diet for 12 weeks and that was 750 less calories compared to their normal diet. The average calorie per day that have consumed is 2,400 calories. Researchers then found out that those who ate high in protein diet were much fuller and satisfied even with decrease intake of calorie.

“We found that when eating high amounts of protein, men who were trying to lose weight felt fuller throughout the day; they also experienced a reduction in late-night desire to eat and had fewer thoughts of food,” said Heather J. Leady of the University of Missouri, who is conducting postdoctoral research at Purdue for the study.” http://www.thirdage.com/news/weight-loss-achieved-high-protein-diet_3-31-2011

The diet was based on the normal protein diet with a ratio of 14 percent protein, 60 percent carbs and 26 percent fat. Temporarily the high protein diet had with the same fat but was made of 25 percent energy from protein and 8 percent from carbs.

They recommend adding lean protein into three square meals a day for those who wants to lose weight in order to get away the feeling of hunger.

“We also found that despite the common trend of eating smaller, more frequent meals, eating frequency had relatively no beneficial impact on appetite control. The larger meals led to reductions in appetite, and people felt full. We want to emphasize though that these three larger meals were restricted in calories and reflected appropriate portion sizes to be effective in weight loss,” Leady added. http://www.thirdage.com/news/weight-loss-achieved-high-protein-diet_3-31-2011?page=1

National Pork Board, the American Egg Board, and Purdue Ingestive Behavior Research Center and National Institutes of Health’s Indiana Clinical Translational Sciences Institute, funded the research.

Combination of Exercise and Diet Work Best among Seniors According to Study

Combination of Exercise and Diet Work Best among Seniors According to Study

Researchers reported that doing a combination of diet and exercise will do better to obese senior who wants to lose weight and stay fit rather than either diet or exercise alone. The lead author of the new study said that, previously it has not been proven to people over 65 years of age even if the finding may sound obvious.

Some physicians are worried about the recommended diet changes and the exercise for older people because they are afraid that the weight loss may result to lose bone mass and muscle and may increase their frailty according to Dr. Dennis T. Villareal, a geriatrics specialist.

Dr. Villareal added that the finding suggest that the older people should ask for doctors approval in the combination of diet and management of weight gain in order to improve their physical function, their quality of life and delay the need for institutionalization.

About 20 percent of elderly are obese and the number increases as more baby boomers age, Villeareal said. He is now the chief of geriatrics at New Mexico VA Medical Center, he then started the research when he was at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

“In a year-long trial, Villareal and his colleagues tracked the health of 93 obese people who were 65 or older. The participants were assigned to one of four groups: Some took part in a 90-minute exercise routine (including stretching, aerobic activity and training on weight machines) three times a week. Others reduced their diets by 500 to 700 calories a day, roughly equal to a couple of servings of low-sugar cereal with non-fat milk. A third group dieted and exercised, while a fourth group, acting as a control, did none of the programs. Those who dieted and exercised did the best, losing 9 percent of their weight while retaining lean body mass, increasing oxygen consumption and improving their strength and balance. The diet-alone group lost 10 percent of their weight but did not achieve similar physical improvements.” http://www.thirdage.com/news/weight-loss-achieved-high-protein-diet_3-31-2011

There is no weight loss reported for that group who did exercise and the control group. Villareal said that it is not surprising that exercise alone didn’t shed pounds. He said that there is a myth that exercise is one way of effective weight loss and it should be intense to cause people to lose weight.

Generally, the researcher reported in their study that diet and exercise alone improve the physical function by 12 and 15 percent correspondingly. But the combination of both can have 21 percent improvement in the overall physical performance.

Alice H. Lichtenstein, the director of the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory at Tuft University’s Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging said that the findings make sense and it is impressive that they were able to get the people engage and adhere to diet and physical activity.

Lead Discovered in “Toxic” Candy Bar

Lead Discovered in “Toxic” Candy Bar

In an ironically strange turn of events, the company Candy Dynamics has recalled a product known as the Toxic Waste Nuclear Sludge Chew Bar because the bars contain…toxins.

The California Department of Public Health did a spot check on the candy bars and it was revealed that the candy contained highly elevated levels of lead.
No illnesses have been reported related to the candy bars and the recall is based on precautionary and preventive steps.

The candy bars are primarily sold online but can be purchased in stores in Carmel. State officials are concerned about potential adverse health reactions – particularly such reactions in children – if the candy bars are ingested. Again, no serious adverse reactions have been reported although alarms have been raised about potential reactions.

Tests for lead are conducted at random on candy products -in the state of California. Concerns arise over the reactions lead may have with children and pregnant women.
