High Fiber Diet Makes a Person Live Longer

High Fiber Diet Makes a Person Live Longer

According to the recent study, those who consume a diet that is rich in fiber lives longer. The study is the first ever to link longevity and consumption of fiber.

The researchers from National Cancer Institute and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) examined dietary fiber intake in relation to total mortality and death from specific causes and found that those with the highest fiber intake, specifically fiber from whole grains, had a significantly lower risk of death from any cause for both men and women.

“For over 15 years I have studied fiber’s effects on cholesterol and serum glucose levels,” Zuckerbrot said. “I recommend my patients eat on average 40g of fiber daily, and I consistently see cholesterol and sugar levels drop approximately 10 percent after 3 months and 20 percent after 6 months, without medication,” she said. “And all my patients lose weight without hunger.” http://www.teatronaturale.com/article/2839.html

On the previous studies, they have found out the diets that have high fiber can help decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, breast cancer and colon cancer. The latest NIH research is the first to present that by eating fiber can help people live longer.

American Dietetic Association advice women eat 25-35g and men eat 38g per day. Unluckily, most Americans are not gathering their fiber requests; the standard American consumes only 9-11g each day.

Zuckerbrot said that the research launches the fiber as the next trend for health because it signals the end of low carb. In fact, fiber-rich foods are delicious and plentiful – found in all from raspberries, to bread, to even chocolate.

Researchers Claims That Low-carb Diet Reduce Liver Fat

Researchers Claims That Low-carb Diet Reduce Liver Fat

According to the United States researchers it is better to reduce carbohydrates rather than cutting more calories. For Dr. Jeffrey Browning, assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, the findings may have implications in treating a number of diseases which includes diabetes, insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Researchers dispense 18 participants with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to both a low-carbohydrate diet — less than 20 grams a day or the same of a small banana or a half-cup of egg noodles — or a low-calorie diet for 14 days. On the final seven days, they change it to frozen meals that was prepared by the Southwestern’s Clinical and Translational Research Center kitchen that is alike in the individual food preferences, carbohydrate and the intake as well as the energy needs.

The study was published in advance online of the print issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, they have found out that after the two weeks of low-calorie diet, the participants appears to have more liver fats.

According to Browning, the led author of the study, even though the research was not develop or designed to know if the diet was is more effective to lose weight, both the low-calorie dieters and the low-carbohydrate dieters lost an average of 10 pounds.

“However, Browning cautioned the findings do not explain why participants on the low-carb diet had a greater reduction in liver fat and that they should not be extrapolated beyond the two-week period of study.” http://www.wtam.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=104777&article=8456120

100% Orange Juice Offers a Good Diet

100% Orange Juice Offers a Good Diet

The new study says that adults and children who consume 100% of orange juice may have a better overall quality diet and have a increase intake of key nutrients as well as less risk of becoming overweight compared to adults that does not drink orange juice.

“As part of the study, researchers analysed data from the 2003–2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and found that both adults and children who consume 100% orange juice tend to have significantly better Healthy Eating Index scores (a measure of diet quality that assesses conformance to federal dietary guidance) as well as greater intake of several key nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate, magnesium and potassium than those who don’t consume 100% orange juice.” http://www.foodbev.com/report/100-orange-juice-linked-to-better-diet

According to study co-author Carol E O’Neil, PhD, MPH, LDN, RD, School of Human Ecology, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, the research helps in showing that 100% orange juice is associated with higher important nutrients like vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and potassium which are mainly under consumed by the US population.

The Study also found out that consumption of 100% orange juice can lower the body mass index and 10% reduction in the risk of adults being overweight or obese. Results are more striking on females where drinking orange juice was associated with a 27% decrease in the risk of becoming overweight or obese. Markedly, the researchers establish no significant difference in the risk of being overweight or obese among children who drink 100% orange juice contrast to those who don’t.

Gail Rampersaud, MS, RD, LDN, assistant in Nutrition Research and Education, University of Florida said that the findings are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines of Americans in 2010 that concludes that on most children and adults, the intake of 100% fruit juice is not associated with the body weight. Rampersaud added that the overall research is encouraging that provides evidence to help refute a common misconception that prevents people from enjoying the taste and nutritional benefits that 100% orange juice offers.
